I haven%26#39;t stayed at the Atlantic, but I do know the area. Like many other large European cities, the area around the train station is a place for transients rather than tourists, if you follow my meaning.

If you require a room for a night in proximity to the station because you are between trains, then this might be a reasonable choice. However, in Bordeaux the station, although in the city itself, is some distance away from the center where visitors are likely to spend time.

So if you are coming to Bordeaux to see the sights, plan on some time and travel to get from the Atlantic Hotel to whatever you might be planning to visit--and back again in the evening.

A more reasonable choice in this price range, for me, is the Hotel Acanthe. Most of the rooms have been recently renovated; I%26#39;ve seen them and they are quite comfortable. Plus, it is right in the center of town.

thanks for your advice. Do you live in the region? or are you just well travelled?

Glad that you find the advice helpful. I%26#39;m an author who has written a couple of books on wine. I arrived in Bordeaux in May of 1993 to work on a book about an aspect of the region%26#39;s wines and have been here ever since. After my book came out in 1997, I began putting my knowledge and contacts at the service of visitors wishing to visit the region%26#39;s châteaux. The forum rules prohibit any advertising or solicitation on my part, but a Google search can take you to a web site which offers more information on who I am and what I do.
