The beauty of France is that you will not be disappointed wherever you go. Where are you arriving in France? Will you be hiring a car or relying on public transport? France is a large country and you do not want to spend too much time travelling.

Most major cities have excellent art museums and galleries; you will certainly want to go to Paris to visit the Musée d%26#39;Orsay (marvelous Impressionist collection, along with many other fine pieces), the Louvre, and the Picasso Museum.

Nice has a good fine-arts museum, the Chagall museum, and the Matisse museum; there is a long beach, but it is made up of pebbles rather than sand. In Vieux Nice you will find a good selection of cafés and bars.

On the peninsula of St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is the beautiful Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, which has a good collection of objets d%26#39;art, some exquisite furniture, and lovely carpets. The view from the tea room is not to be missed, nor are the 7 gardens in different styles.

St-Tropez has both very good beaches, drinking opportunities, and the fine small museum , with an excellent post-impressionist collection.
