Relais Saint Germain, Esprit Saint Germain, or Hotel...

Bonjour! We%26#39;re going to Paris to celebrate our birthdays and anniversary. It%26#39;s my husbands first time in Paris. We want a charming hotel in Saint Germain. Something with a/c, at least a queen bed, not two twins pushed together, a balcony or terrace or nice big windows to open up and look out at the street, an updated clean bathroom with a tub/shower. Sounds like a lot. The pics of the RSG and Hotel d%26#39;Aubusson are not flattering.

I don%26#39;t know the relatively new HÔTEL ESPRIT SAINT GERMAIN...but I do both the HÔTEL d%26#39;AUBUSSON and HÔTEL RELAIS SAINT GERMAIN. Though you cannot go far wrong with either (the d%26#39;Aubusson is a personal favorite of ours) I think--given your criteria for a step-out balcony--the RELAIS SAINT GERMAIN will suit your criteris best. The Hotel d%26#39;Aubusson has a few front facing rooms with %26#39;sorta%26#39; stand-in balconies (more like an exterior railing across the window openning). If you look at photos at the hotel%26#39;s web site, what you see is pretty much what you get when you step up to the deluxe rooms. As for beds, rooms will be furnished both ways, so you should specify %26#39;..une Grand Lit..%26#39; for a single Full or Queen sized bed when you make your reservation. In either case, try for a room on an upper floor for better views of the rooftops, domes and spires of Paris.

To see the facade of the hotel and the size of the front balconies, enter %26#39;..HOTEL RELAIS SAINT GERMAIN..%26#39; and %26#39;..PARIS..%26#39; into the PAGES JAUNES web site-- http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en

Thanks for your response. A few more questions. We will be there first week of June, so the rates are at peak prices. Have you stayed in Relais Saint Germain? The pics of rooms are not all flattering, they look somewhat crowded although they are larger than the Esprit Saint Germain(new ultra-hip hotel, not many reviews, and pricey). The virtual tour of RSG shows outdated furnishings. Aubusson is offering a package price with limo pick-up at airport(we%26#39;re coming in on train from Provence),museum passes, champagne, breakfast, and more. RSG offers breakfast, for 70E less a night. Do you have any other favorites in this category you would recommend? I%26#39;ve stayed around the opera before and on the outskirts of Paris. This will probably be the one and only time I%26#39;ll get my husband to go to Paris, so want it to be hassle free. All the help and info will be greatly appreciated.

We%26#39;ve stayed at the Hotel d%26#39;Aubusson and stopped into the Hotel Relais Saint Germain a couple of time to check it out as a possible alternative, and been shown or %26#39;looked into%26#39; rooms here. I%26#39;m not sure what your perceptions of the photos was...but ours is that %26#39;what ya%26#39; see is pretty much what ya%26#39; get%26#39; in their %26#39;deluxe category, with the %26#39;standard%26#39; rooms bit a bit %26#39;plainer%26#39; (mostly on the back of the hotel) but still quite pleasant. Our perception of the rooms we visited or looked into was that they were quite pleasantly furnished/decorated and at least %26#39;Paris average%26#39; if not substantially larger (these aren%26#39;t %26#39;cookie cutter%26#39; room layouts or floor plans).

In comparing ANY %26#39;package%26#39; a hotel may be offering, it%26#39;s usually best to try to break-out the component parts and determine their cost and relative value to you...and try to compare apples-to-apples. As an example, your train from Provence will either arrive at Gare de Lyon or Gare de Bercy. In either case, the taxi fare from either station to any of these hotels will be no more than 15 €. Your taxi fare out to CDG upon departure should ron approx. 40-50€ ; a 2 day Paris Museum Pass will be 30€ and a 4 day will be 45€. A bottle of half-way decent champagne will run 15 €.

Savvy I%26#39;ve been inside both Esprit St Germain and Hotel d%26quot;Aubusson. (But never booked a room because I like to spend my money on food!)

Honestly I%26#39;d be hard pressed to pick one hotel over the other, I%26#39;d be happy at either one. I%26#39;m not sure how familiar you are with this area of the 6eme, but the d%26quot;Aubusson is on a generally more %26quot;lively%26quot; street, and the Esprit St Germain is situated on a quieter street.

One other thing, the d%26#39;Aubusson has a very pleasant jazz bar (which is why I was there), so you might enjoy that before retiring to your room in the evenings.

Why is Aubusson your favorite? What category of room do you prefer(we were offered grande luxe apartment). How are the beds/bathrooms and ambience?
