France in October

My wife and I have won a trip to France and the only time we can go is in October. We have a choice to spend 14 days on a %26quot;whole France%26quot; tour or 10 days on the French and Italian Riviera. We are leaning towards the Riviera because of weather concerns so late in the year. Can someone help us make the correct decision?

I%26#39;d head straight to Provence! You won%26#39;t want to spend the entire time on the Côte d%26#39;Azur, but if you have a car (or are comfortable using public transportation) you can take day trips to many interesting places. A %26quot;whole France%26quot; tour in 10 days would be like %26quot; If It%26#39;s Tuesday It Must Be Belgium%26quot;!

October in Provence should be lovely--in fact, that%26#39;s when we chose to go because the weather is still good but the tourist hordes are gone.

um. Cote d%26#39;Azur (French Riviera) is a part of Provence. IMO, it%26#39;s beautiful in September. I%26#39;m not sure if it gets colder in October though. One thing for certain, by mid-September, the weather is still beautiful and the crowds are gone!

Until you get more information, I%26#39;d lean towards the French/Italian Riviera route as well. IMO, 14 days for the %26quot;whole France%26quot; sounds kind of hectic.

Darth,

Thanks for saving me from delivering my usual lecture on how the Côte d%26#39;Azur is part of Provence! I wish I knew where the idea that the French Riviera is somehow separate from Provence got started.
