It%26#39;s been great reading this forum on Corsica as we are really excited about our holiday there this year. we have booked our flights to Bastia and now have to decide between the Saint Erasme hotel in Calvi or the Hotel la Laguna near St Florent. Can anyone put me out of my misery and give me some low-down on these hotels? Look forward to some helpful comments/suggestions!

No experience of the hotels I%26#39;m afraid, but I think Calvi is possibly a better bet than St Florent, although it has to be a matter of personal taste. Calvi certainly has a better beach and greater variety of outings close by, including the tramway connecting with L%26#39;ile Rousse via Algajola and the beaches. Having said that, St Florent is perhaps the more picturesque of the two and has great eating out, and is very handy for a tour of Cap Corse. It%26#39;s also closer to Bastia airport. Spin a coin perhaps!

My coin would also fall on the Calvi side. OK, I%26#39;m a bit of a Balagnephile, but I just like the variety of different things you can do from Calvi.
St Florent is bounded to the West by the forbidding yet stangely beautiful Deserte des Agréates. You have to get through this big hunk of more or less bare rock before you reach the more welcoming resorts of Lozari and Ile Rousse. If you%26#39;re a wine buff, St Florent is very convenient for Patrimonio, the island%26#39;s best known wine growing area...
But don%26#39;t forget Calvi%26#39;s own wines... there are a dozen or so vineyards in the Calvi area and their products are all excellent. That should keep you busy for a fortnight!

Gosh that%26#39;s a hard one as I love both! St Florent is really pretty (I seem to remember cows in the beach though) and it%26#39;s easy to explore Cap Corse from there. However, I%26#39;d probably agree with the other 2 and say Calvi as theer is so much to do there and in the surrounding area. Regarding the hotels however, I have no idea about the one in St Florent. The St Erasme is a simple but good clean hotel. There are some good reviews on this site you may want to have a look at.

Many thanks for these replies....what a great site!! I still have a niggle about the Laguna hotel as it is on the beach AND has a lovely pool...however I can find NO info on Lucciana which is where it is exactly. Any help on that one??

St Florent is a bit more out of the way than Calvi and I guess you%26#39;d get to see a lot of the little train that runs along the coast.
The St Erasme is lovely and because it%26#39;s out of the very centre has the space for nice grounds, and a lovely pool with stunning views. That said, being out of the centre can be a pain if you were planning on doing a lot of beach time with little ones. The hotel is 10 minutes walk uphill from the town centre and the beaches are 5-10 mins on the other side of the town. 15 mins uphill is no big deal for anyone 6 or over, but a sand-encrusted 4 year old might be a different story.

Many thanks again to everyone who has replied. We are now booked in at the St Erasme and really looking foward to our visit to Corsica.
