Long weekend Near Calais?

I am planning a long weekend in france with a group of friends in May. We would love to go to Britanny but it%26#39;s looking to be too far for a few days.

Can anyone recommend an area to stay within about 2 hrs drive of the tunnel? Ideally we%26#39;d like somewhere with bars, restaurants and general touristy stuff, beach would be great too! Any ideas most welcome.

Well Le Touquet would be the obvious choice. Good beach, plenty of restaurants, bars and touristy stuff. Shops as well. Less than an hour from Calais. If you want somewhere a little different, De Panne, the first resort over the border in Belgium, offers the same facilities but also the opportunity to explore the whole Belgian coast using the coastal tram service from De Panne to Ostend and beyond. Again, under an hour from Calais.

But why do you say Brittany is too far? Flying to Dinard and/or Brest and hiring a car can be cheaper than the channel crossings. Might be worth a look?

if you are travelling with the car the ideal location is just on the middle of le Touquet and La Panne.

You can stay in a charming Bed and Breakfast called Le Petit Tambour:

www.petit-tambour.com in Autingues (1km from Ardres)

decorated by an artist (country and smart style you can find for example in the magazin Country Living)have a memorable breakfast (all home made)and can discover the wild opal coast from Cap Blanc Nez and Le Touquet the first day and go the day after to the Belgian coast La Panne and why not to Bruges romantic.
