Nantes to Loire castles

We are staying in Nantes visiting out daughter who is studying there. We want to visit the castles in the Loire valley, but we%26#39;re totally unfamiliar with the area. Should we try to go on a tour from Nantes to the Loire valley (if there are some), or just rent a car. We also want to do Normandy. Are there tours from Nantes to any of these two areas? Thanks! I don%26#39;t know of any tours from Nantes to the Loire or Normandy but there may very well be some...

Driving, if you have the time, is relatively easy in this neck of the woods and it can be very scenic...

OR, you could take the TGV to Angers, for example, and start your chateau crawl there at the bon chateau d%26#39;Angers...The Tapestry of the Apocalypse is displayed there and certainly is worth seeing...The chateau is worth a climb,too...Then keep chugging up the Loire as far as you can...Angers is about an hour or so from Saumur which is an hour or so from Tours...Many great chateaux in that region....Chinon, Saumur, Chenonceaux, Azay le Rideau, Villandry, Chambord, Cheverny, Amboise...Usse,just to name a few...Bon Voyage...
