paris hotel: hotel des archives or le general?

hello,

we%26#39;re going on our honeymoon and are trying to decide between these 2 hotels. we like the more modern boutique hotels and want to stay near the marais.

we%26#39;ve been told that the hotel des archives is more central to cafes, restaurants, a flea market, etc. and can get a junior suite w/breakfast for the same price of a standard room at le general. i think le general is not as central to all the action :%26amp;gt;

i%26#39;m 31, my hubby is 32 - we%26#39;d like to stay in a hipper part of town..........any thoughts??

merci!!

Difficult to make a choice - both hotels seem to target a design-conscious clientele. From the outside, the Hotel des Archives doesn%26#39;t look like much, but their website looks great.

I%26#39;ve stayed a few times in another hotel in the Rue Rampon (where the Général is), but that was a long time ago; not really a %26quot;hipper part of town%26quot; - but neither is the rue des Archives, IMHO.

You can use www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en to view pics of the hotel, the street and neighbourhood - maybe that will help.

Both hotels have no metro stop in the immediate vicinity (but that just means you%26#39;ll have to walk 200-300 m)

thanks jantoo!

i guess we had heard that the marais was a fun area - didn%26#39;t realize that the hotel des archives isn%26#39;t on a great street....

hmmmmmm, what about the champs-elysees area? is this more touristy? we had thought about the hotel de sers, which looks like such a fabulous hotel, but were a bit concerned about being in a touristy area.

we%26#39;d like to be in an area that%26#39;s more neighborhood-y, where people actually live!

any thoughts? TIA!

Just in case you%26#39;ve missed them, here are the websites of these hotels:

http://www.legeneralhotel.com

http://www.hoteldesarchives.com

The Général has a lot of press clippings online that are nice to read.

The Champs Elysées neighbourhood is usually more expensive, more touristy, and more %26#39;chic%26#39;, with lots of offices and expensive shops.

jantoo,

i guess we should definitely stay away from

the champs-elysees area then! don%26#39;t want to be surrounded by too many tourists ;%26gt; plus, it sounds more high-end, and we%26#39;d like to be in a more bohemian part of town.........

my hubby %26amp; i have looked extensively at both websites, and still can%26#39;t decide.......i guess it comes with being a libra, we%26#39;re notoriously indecisive! we need to decide soon though - we%26#39;re leaving on the 17th of march!

thanks again for all your help.
