Info on Puteaux

Anybody knows about this area? I%26#39;ve been invited by a friend to stay at this area where they live. All I know is this is where La Defense is but I%26#39;ve never visited this area during my visits to Paris. Is this on the Metro line? How many minutes to the city center? What are the things to see and do here aside from La Defense?

Well Puteaux is nice enough, it feels more relaxed than Paris and the buildings are most low rise residential. It lies just south of La Déf and if your friends live on the hillside they may even have a view of the Eiffel TOwer!

THere%26#39;s not much to see or do specifically* but you%26#39;re not a million miles away from Paris after all. An average Puteaux - Paris journey would be about 20 mins. La Déf is the transport hub so your quickest way to get to Paris will probably be via there either by bus or tram; there are also local trains which run thro%26#39; La Déf to St. Lazare.

*THe one thing you could do is get the tram south to Saint Cloud (pronounced %26#39;clue%26#39;.

PUTEAUX is a well-to-do suburb, just a bit west of Paris and south of the La Défense complex. It is located out in transportation Zone 3...so you will need a Zone 1-3 transportation pass or two tickets to get to or from Paris.

There us a SNCF statation in PUTEAUX which will get you to PARIS Saint Lazare in approx 15 minutes (not covered by RATP transportation passes) or there is public bus service from Puteaux to La DÉFENSE for either the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne (12 mins. to CHATELET-Les HALLES or #1 Metro ligne (17 mins to LOUVRE-RIVOLI. I%26#39;m not sure how long the public bus ride is from centre ville Puteaux...but I suspect 10-15 minutes, at the outside.

I%26#39;ve often used my carte orange on that train route, at least as far as La Défense, without any problem. Recently when working near the Puteaux tram stop I found it almost as quick to walk to La Déf if there was an 8 minute wait for the tram.

If it%26#39;s a choice of staying with a friend in Puteaux or paying for a hotel in Paris I know which I%26#39;d choose!

As has recently been noted here, LA DÉFENSE is one of the unusual %26#39;..exceptions..%26#39; to Zone 1-2 transportation passes (Saint Denis is another) If you use the #1 METRO ligne to get from Paris out to LA DÉFENSE, it IS covered by a Zone 1-2 pass or a single Metro ticket (EVERY Metro station of EVERY Metro ligne is covered by a zone 1-2 pass or single ticket)....***BUT***...if you use the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne train to get from Paris out to LA DÉFENSE, it is considered Zone 3 and NOT covered...nor are the bus routes all the way to La DÉFENSE. This in one of the occasional %26#39;cracks%26#39; in the ordinarily easy-to-understand and use system.

In any event, PUTEAUX is difinitely within transportation Zone 3 and you would require a Zone 1-3 transportaion pass or two(2) tickets.

Thanks to all for the info. I may have to book a hotel for other nights in Paris and stay the other nights with my friend to enjoy both worlds.
