Paris to Chamonix

What is the fastest way to get from Paris to Chamonix? By train? Plane (to Geneva)? thanks in advance.

I took the TGV high speed train from Paris to Chambery and rented a car. I think the train trip was 2.5 or 3 hours and the drive was about 1.5 or 2 hours (and very beautiful). Go on the SNCF web site and you can check the train times; they also propose rental cars. Be careful if you arrive in Chambery, or anywhere, between noon and 3pm -- you may find the car rental office is closed for lunchtime.

Train (TGV) to Geneva, change for Martigny and from there by a cog railway train to Chamonix. Not necessary the fastest way but definitely more scenic!

Can you please tell me which transportation did you choose in the end from Paris to Chamonix? And was that the ideal means of getting there.

Thanks.

Hi- just returned from Chamonix- Wow, what a super place, super skiing and if you go in the next couple of days...Fresh Powder!!

We took the night train from Paris, Austerlitz (it leaves at 10ish) changed at St Gervais Les Bains and then direct to Chamonix (just another hour). We liked it because we didn%26#39;t ruin a whole day by traveling (even with the TGV it really wrecks the day). All you need are an eyeshade, earplugs (provided if you are in 1st class), and an Ambien pill to help you sleep (in my case). The return train is equally nice leaving Chamonix around 9 PM and arriving in Paris at 6:30 am. You should try the night train at least once as it is soon to be retired forever...

Wishing you good snow and safe skiing

We are doing just the opposite in June. We are going to Chamonix from Monte Carlo by way of Geneva (TGV) Then train to Chamonix. Afterwards we are going via Martigny/Brig to Zermatt..... then Zermatt to Lausanne to catch the TGV to Paris. It seemed when I was checking the train times we would save time going to Lausanne instead of via Geneva. You might want to check the connections thru Lausanne as well as Geneva.

Without doubt the fastest way is fly to Geneva then rent a car. The ski bus will take a little longer than driving. I would estimate 3 hours from take off.

I can do it in 4 hours from London.
