Hi

Hertz and Avis are well represented in France and large local companies include Europcar and Ada. Hertz is often the most expensive option and Ada the cheapest. Avis are well represented at train stations in France thanks to a special arrangement with SNCF French Railways. Do check the fares on their websites as rental companies tend to have zillions of different fares. Be careful also with the size of cars: compact really means compact in France!

Your US driving license will be fully acceptable. Like everywhere else, the most important thing to have is a credit card...

You may find driving a bit more aggressive than in the US - but it is definitely not that awful. From Paris to Reims you will drive on a motorway pretty much like you would do when getting out of Seattle.

Enjoy you stay.

Often you can get the best rate through autoeurope.com, a company based in Portland, Maine. Be sure you book an automatic transmission, if you are not used to driving standard; most cars in France are stick shift. Check with Amex about limits on car rental insurance; some cards include Europe, others don%26#39;t and there are exeptions with more expensive cars. If you do ask for an automatic, since they are somewhat rare, you don%26#39;t always get the little car you contracted for. We have been upgraded to a large Mercedes several times because it they were the only automatics on the lot. That can be a treat, but then you have to be sure your insurance covers the more costly vehicle. With AutoEurope, there is an option for an all-inclusive rate, or you can often buy cheap(er) rental insurance from a trip insurance company ahead of your trip. Have a great time in Reims. Drink some champagne for me.
