Loire Vally in late March?

Would you recommend going to Loire Valley in late March? I am wondering whether it will be still cold and the trees not green yet. I%26#39;d appreciate any comment.

I think you will find that indeed spring warming will not become evident until possibly May, March tends to be cold and sighting green trees remains doubtful.

There are however some advantages to a winter visit. The first time I visited the Loire Valley chateaux over 20 years ago crowds were never a problem. This summer you will find the parking lots full of buses and the chateaux swarming with tourists like ants over wet bread. If you are serious about a visit from an historical and architectual standpoint, this might be the perfect time to visit, keeping in mind that the chateaux never had and still do not have central heating. I gave up some time ago trying to guess what the weather might be, particually at such a northern latitude as the Loire Valley. There will be warmer days and colder days (perhaps much colder) but ultimately you might use this to your own advantage.

For better information about the Loire Valley, including chateaux and possible weather tips try the Tours tourist office:

it sounds a little early but I think it%26#39;d be wise to inquire of the tourism office in say Tours, as has been suggested, if they%26#39;ve had a mild winter as we have....Our daffodils are ready to pop and our trees have already lost one set of blossoms...Then, in that case, you might find it a bit greened up....

We were there for two weeks in mid May and it was pure heaven...One three-day really hot heat wave, but the rest was divine..warm during the day, not one rainy day, and cool at night...we even got to swim in our pool at our rental farmhouse three of those days...The rest of the time it was too cool and we needed to burn most of M. Landlord%26#39;s woodpile to supplement the funky heating in the 19th century farmhouse...EVERY rose in the Loire was in bloom then, I swear...not to mention the poppies, irises, and wisteria...It was beautiful...and not as crowded as it no doubt will be in summer...Plus, the chateaux closest to Paris seemed to be the most crowded with tourists as well...move further down the Loire and you may thin them out a bit...If you can wait til May, I recommend it, but there%26#39;s never a really bad time to visit the Loire...Just don%26#39;t expect beach weather..

Hi I am off to the Loire valley at end of May beginning of June staying in Ligny Le Ribault in a farmhouse, anyone been?

My family and I stayed in the Loire Valley February 16th for 3 nights and are from Arizona....It was incredible the coldest it got was about 40. The French weather is alittle strange, the morning can be gloomy and by lunch its sunny and then near sundown it got breezy and a bit nippy. But you soon forget about the weather and are mesmorized by the beauty of the area. Besides this is the best time to visit the valley chateaus, no lines and no crowds. Usse (sleeping beauty%26#39;s castle) and Chambord were my favorites. It was nice to be in weather that wasn%26#39;t sunny and warm year around. I usually go to Europe in low season to avoid long lines and crowds, its a great time to go.
