Which Chateau to stay in?

My husband and 12 year old daughter will have 3 days in the Loire Valley in June. We are choosing between two chateau-type hotels that both look wonderful (on the Internet, at least): the Domaine de la Tortiniere in Montbazon, and the Domaine des Hauts de Loire in Onzain. Any comments on either hotel, or opinions on which to choose? We will have a car. Thanks!!

Both of these châteaux are lovely places to stay, but I%26#39;d give the nod to the Domaine des Hauts de Loire because the décor of the rooms--especially in the new wing. But you can%26#39;t go wrong with either one, although I remember that not all the rooms in the domaine de la Tortinière had air-conditioning and that the restaurant was on the warm side.

The Domaine des Hauts de Loire is a member of the Relais et Châteaux organization; if you haven%26#39;t stayed at one of those hotels before, you will be in for a real treat.

Do you mean the Lenore Valley?

Where is the Lenore Valley? Never heard of it.

Hi,

both are exceptional but the location of the Domaine de la Tortinière, in Montbazon is excellent. Personal opinion but you just can%26#39;t beat the charming villages around the River Indre.

Have you also considered Chateaux Belmont in Tours? Centrally located and also a member of the Relais de Chateaux chain, you can experience the amazing cuisine of Jean Bardet (Michelin 2*) and the welcome from his wife and host Sophie.

The gardens here are stunning.

Best wishes

Quick apology,

I should not have referred to Relais de Chateaux as a %26quot;chain%26quot;. They are anything but!

jeanniedc, I just got back a couple of weeks ago from the Loire valley and stayed near Amboise. We were a family of 4, Mom Dad and two daughters 16 %26amp; 21. We had the most spectacular trip to the Loire and most importantly stayed at the most beautiful 18th century chateau, Chateau de Perreux. It is dripping in Renaissance style and beauty. Low season rate was 130 Euro a night. We never stayed at a B %26amp; B before but after this trip we won%26#39;t shy away from it again. It was like staying in your own personal castle. The large suites are decorated with usable antiques and have fireplaces with sitting area and modern bathroom. Your continental breakfast is served on a table with table cloth, crystal, china and silver service. The owners are incredible! Eric helped us with dinner reservations, directions and suggested fun places to visit. Your imagination will run wild at this place you%26#39;ll feel like your starring in a movie and your the Lord and Lady of the manor.

Thank you, Kanagirl, and all others who have replied!!

Hi

We stayed in Tortiniere many years ago in the Renaissance Pavilion. It was really great. They have a rowing boat that you can take out on the river which is great fun and something daughter would like. It is also a very convenient location for visiting Azay-le-rideau, Chenonceaux (which should be done early to avoid the crowds) and Chambord.
