Something special for first night in Paris

I was hoping for our first evening in Paris we would be having dinner at Altitude 95. I thought what a better way to say here we are in Paris than dining on the eiffel tower. Unfortunitly, I was not able to get reservations for that evening. So now I%26#39;m looking for suggestions on something special to do our first evening that says wow we are really in Paris. Please keep in mind my budget is more Altitude 95 and less Jules Verne. It is just myself and my 17 year old daughter arriving on a Friday. I would appreciate your suggestions as many of you have been so helpful with my other questions. Thank you once again! Emily

Hello. I would recommend the restaurant %26quot;Chez Henri - Au Moulin a Vent%26quot; which is in the 5th area of Paris at 20 rue des Fosses Saint-Bernard (tel 33 (0) 143 54 99 37) with a trip just beforehand to the roof of the Institute du Monde Arabe which is just across the street, for a beautiful view of Paris. Chez Henri is a small cozy French bistrot which serves absolutely delicious traditional French food. They specialize in meat, try the Chateaubriand if you enjoy beef. They also offer excellent %26quot;charcuterie%26quot; (or sausages and meats) which you can start your meal with. They bring a large board which they weigh before and after you have served yourself to determine the price !

The desserts are heavenly and the wine list excellent.

After dinner a stroll on the banks of the Seine could complete a wonderful first night in Paris ! Bon Voyage et Bon apetit !

I%26#39;d probably forget a longish, heavy dinner and just explore the neighbourhood. Get some fresh air, sit down at a nice café, have a glass of wine and a sandwich, an omelette or a croque-monsieur. You%26#39;re likely to crash by 10 PM if not earlier with your jetlag.

I%26#39;d do %26#39;the special first evening%26#39; one of the next evenings.

Bonjour Emily,

I think Coco%26#39;s idea is a great one. That would be my choice but if you find that the adrenaline is keeping you going why not take a cruise on the Seine. You will be sitting down and relaxing while the illuminations monunents will strolled by. (Do not choose the diner-cruise they are not a good deal)

If you are arriving from the US on your first night in Paris, you may want to consider delaying your special evening until you have adjusted to both the time zone change and the long flight. If you do have the energy, something simple like dinner on a bateau mouche is a good way to celebrate your arrival.

I would recommend a Siene cruise. Nothing like seeing the city of light from the Seine to say your in Paris. If you think you will be tired, I would recommend just the hour cruise and a light dinner elsewhere. But, I took my 18yr old on an early dinner cruise and it was the highlight of her trip. If you want a company that has an early seating at a lower price, then I can recommend the following company. There are a couple others that are more expensive, and have a later dinner time. But, ours had suprisingly great food!!

Frankly, Altitudes may have done you a favor. After a long trans-Atlantic flight and a busy arrival day in Paris, you might be better served by dining %26#39;lighter%26#39; than you might ordinarily. For this, any likely-looking café or local restaurant in your %26#39;neighborhood%26#39; or that you pass along the way during the day might serve better. What better way to say %26quot;..Gee whiz !! We%26#39;re in PARIS !!!..%26quot; than a meal at a charming Parisian side-walk café??

We are planning a picnic in the park near the Eiffel Tower so we can relax and watch the lights come on. Wine, cheese, sausage, bread, etc. what could be better. Of course, we are going in the summer, so if you are going soon, it would definitely be too cold for that option.
