I had a travel agent recommend a Comfort Inn in Paris, and I ditched the travel agent and booked my hotel myself, after much research on TA. I guess it depends on what you want. If you want to experience a Parisian hotel -- meaning small rooms with few amenities but lots of character -- I would suggest Hotel St Jacques in the 5th arrondissement. I stayed there on my first trip and loved it. If you do a search on TA, there are tons of threads with recommendations for good, cheap hotels on the Left Bank (which is a great place to stay IMO). Right in the middle of everything. Lots of restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops, etc. Good luck!

don%26#39;t know your budget but I liked the Hotel Saint Paul very much. It%26#39;s two blocks from the Odeon metro stop, close to the Cluny, Luxembourg, and about a 20 minute stroll to Notre Dame.

Kdk mentions some good hotels. There are lots of nice choices on the left bank, you don%26#39;t have to go to a chain hotel (I think that you lose a lot of charm in the chain hotels).

A lot of people like the Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche in the Latin Quarter. The Hotel de l%26#39;abbaye and the Hotel le Gregoire are nice as well.

I just got back from Paris last night and stayed at Hotel Herni IV in the 5th. Rooms are small, typical of European hotels but the LOCATION was excellent. You are 2 blocks from Notre Dame (just over the bridge) and in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Walk out the door and you feel like you will experience all things France.

The rooms have been redone and they are comfortable and clean. As always, ask to see the available room options as the views differ. Decor in each room looked pretty much the same (I snuck peeks when the rooms were being cleaned).

This is a 3 star hotel. The staff speaks English. The metro is perhaps 2 short blocks away but because this hotel is ideally located, you can walk to many of the major sights (Hotel de Ville, the Marais, the Sorbonne) so you won%26#39;t waste time on the Metro. I would stay here again, just for the location.

I have stayed at the following two star hotels and I recommend them:

Hotel du College de France

Hotel St. Jacques

Hotel St. Pierre

I have also stayed at this 3-star and I recommend it: Hotel de Fleurie

I stayed at the Hotel Fleurie last fall and liked it a lot. Great location and pleasant rooms. I would stay there again if I was to return to Paris. You%26#39;re smart to stay in St Germain--it%26#39;s the best part of Paris and is very lively at night.

Hi,

Just returned from our 6th stay at the Hotel Prince de Conde, 39 Rue de Seine, a three star hotel, (no longer Libertel), 150euros inclusive of breakfast. Small (12 rooms), but very clean, quiet, cosy, excellent location, staff very attentitive

See a previous post of mine regarding there dedication to a client!

You are 100m from the Pont des Arts, and 100m from Rue Buci with excellent food shops and a market, and some great restaurants and cafes, and 5 doors away from La Pallette! The metro at Mabillion is 150m away.

Best wishes

Hi mtsinsf, thanks for leaving your info on the Henri IV Rive Gauche, I have just booked for myself and friend going in May. I read all the TA reviews but it is always good to hear people recommening the hotel.

If you have any further info or tips please do so as it would be very helpful. Such as where did you eat breakfast/dinner and would you go back again.

Thanks
