I have not stayed in any but dont particularly like the area Mary%26#39;s Hotel (hostel) is in and the one review on tripadvisor is favourable but shows a tiny room. There is more than one Hotel des Allies.

I would go for the Tiquetonne as it has a good name as a decent cheap hotel and it is near rue Montorgeuil - I like the area better than the others. Here are the Tripadvisor reviews if you have not seen them

tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187147-d235613…

There are a lot of other favourable reviews online of this hotel, like this one on Eurocheapo

First, I%26#39;d try to read the reviews here on TA, if there are any. Just put the hotels%26#39; name into the search box in the upper left corner of the screen.

Second, I%26#39;d probably go with the des Allies, mainly because it%26#39;s on the Left Bank in the 5th arr. south of the Monge area.

You will know that all the three places are 1 star hotels, so expect them to be sort of very basic.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Personally, I would go for the Tiquetonne. Lots of good reviews on Tripadvisor vs none for des Allies - it is an ok hotel but it is further out from the centre (by which I mean the 2 islands in the Seine) and a lot of reliable guidebooks also recommend the Tiquetonne as a clean decent cheap hotel. The hotel is near rue Montorgeuil which is a great pedestrian street, near the Pompidou Centre and only a short walk to either the Latin Quarter or the Marais areas - which are great for a first timer.
