Versailles in half a day

I%26#39;ll only be in Paris for three days next week, but do want to go to Versailles. Is half a day enough, given that the gardens won%26#39;t be at their best? I%26#39;m thinking that we%26#39;ll do the state apts with the audioguide tour only, then just peek at the gardens. We%26#39;ll try to get there early in the day to catch the opening of the state apts at 9 AM. I understand the gardens open at 8:00; can we just peek in there first, then go back and get our ticket for the apts? Do we get the audioguide at the same time as we get our ticket?

Thanks for any and all advice on these particulars.

In the same sense that 3 days in Paris isn%26#39;t enough, neither is a half day at Versailles, but we all do what we can. If that%26#39;s the amount of time you have, then my advice would be to go and make the best of it. If you are purchasing a Paris Museum Pass, this is one of those times when it will actually be an excellent bargain. From April thru October, the gardens are not included in the museum pass, but since you%26#39;ll be there in March, you can use the pass to visit the gardens as well as the state apartments, including the Hall of Mirrors. The pass does not include the Kings Chambers, which would normally be extra (but included in the 20Euro Versailles Passeport), but since you%26#39;ll only be spending that half day, the Museum Pass might cover everything you%26#39;re able to fit in. The two-day pass is just 30Euros, and as I mentioned, you could spend 20Euros on the full day Versailles passeport alone. More info about the museum pass at www.parismuseumpass.com and for Versailles visit www.chateauversailles.fr

Keep in mind that the Chateau is closed on Mondays, and closes at 17:30 thru the end of March. Also keep in mind if you%26#39;re planning to see the Trianons, the don%26#39;t open until noon.

In addition to the PARIS MUSEUM PASS which covers entry to some 70-odd museums and monuments in and around Paris (including Chateau de Versailles--but NOT the State Apartments) there is also the one-day VERSAILLES PASS, which may be purchased at RER stations prior to departure
