Metro and museum pass

I was planning to purchase the 5 day metro pass along with a 3 day museum pass. Does anyone know if there is a discount if i purchase these both together?

Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge....NO....no discounts for %26#39;paired%26#39; purchases. Each is an offering of a separate agency---the RATP for the PARIS VISITÉ transportation pass and INTERMUSÉES for the CARTE MUSÉES et MONUMENTS museum pass.

In any event, pre-purchase of either of these passes prior to arriving in Paris is almost always a bad idea...and higher costs...than purchase from any of the hundreds of convenient locations throughout the city, at official prices. Furthermore, depending on the specific days of your proposed visit and useage; there may be better transportation pass / tickets options/alternatives available to you---available only upon arrival in Paris.

i would imagine it would be more convienent to purchase the metro pass prior to arriving in Paris (in my case at least since i will be taking the trains from the airport).

What is the price of these passes if i buy them in paris? This is what i%26#39;m seeing from http://www.conciergerie.com

Paris Visite Pass - 3 days 5 zones : $ 59.20

Museum Pass for 3 days : $ 50.40

I haven%26#39;t factored in s%26amp;h which i can%26#39;t imagine a huge fee for this. but i couold be wrong....

The metro pass that you would purchase prior to arrival will NOT be valid for the trip to/from the airport. When you arrive at CDG you can puchse the passes as well as your transport to/from the airport in one visit to the ticketing counter.

Well, there is the %26#39;convenience%26#39; of having the passes delivered to your hotel. My estimate is that this will cost you an additional 13-14 €uro over the official prices in Paris, for VERY LITTLE additional %26#39;convenience%26#39;...since these passes are quickly, easily and conveniently available in just about every Metro %26amp; RER station in Paris, that you plan on using anyway. In the event that the Carte Musées et Monuments pass may not available at a Metro or RER ticket kiosk, then it will be available at any of the score of participating museums and monuments in Paris that you plan to visit anyway.

But do your own comparison and math between a third-party agency like www.conciergerie.com and the official pricing in Paris

Why is this? I checked rapt.com and it is stated that from the airport CDG to zone 1, the passe visite will be accepted.

Okay, i noticed the price difference between ratp.com and conciergerie.com and see that conciergerie.com is overcharging. Agreed, I will just buy it when i get there at the airport. But which one should i buy? I will arrive on a Friday and will be leaving on tuesday, for a total of 5 days. I would imagine that would rule out the carte orange since that is on a weekly basic where it starts on Monday. So i guess i should purchase the passe visite 5 day -- zone 1-5, which should start as soon as i use it at the airport on Friday. This is a good value since i will be using this pass to/from the airport, to/from Versaille, and traveling through Paris on a daily basis.

You need to do the math...BEFORE...you decide which pass, covering which zones works best for you.

To begin with CDG is located out in transportation ZONE-5...so you would need a PARIS VISITÉ pass vailid for travel within Zones 1-5. The regular, one-way fare for the RER %26#39;B%26#39; train into Paris is 8 €. Even if you plan to use the RER %26#39;B%26#39; train both ways you still come out a few €uro behind on the transaction...vs...PARIS VISITÉ Zone 1-3 + 2 separate, 8 €, one-way RER %26#39;B%26#39; tickets. BUT...if you plan to use the RER (or ROISSYBUS) BOTH ways..AND..plan a day-trip out to perhaps Chateau de Versailles (out in Zone 4--5,30 € r.t. or DisneyLand Paris--out in Zone 5--12,20 € r.t.) then you come out ahead by a few €uros.

Suppoose you decide that you want to take a Taxi or use an airport shuttle service back to CDG for your departure??

Look...I%26#39;ll be the first to admit that these are not especially significant amounts of money---and I%26#39;m most certainly not an advocate of %26#39;..wasteful thrift..%26#39; (Save it here with little or no difficulty...but spend it--a dam sight more easily--somewhere else). It%26#39;s just that they could represent an extra coffee or glass of wine, an extra dessert...add up enough of %26#39;em and they could represent a better restaurant for lunch or dinner, a better bottle of wine, ...or just some small extravagance for yourself. Better in your pocket to spend as you like...than someone else%26#39;s.

Given your specific days of travel (Fri-thru-Tues) CARTE ORANGE really isn%26#39;t an option for you. Depending on your intended public transportation useage during your visit you might even find that two(2) CARNETs (20 individual tickets) + separate, one-way RER fares might suffice

Zones euros

1 ticket 1,40

Carnet of 10 tickets full fare 10,70

Carnet of 10 tickets reduced fare 5,35

I saw the above on the RATP website. What is the reduced fare for the carnet? Would I be eligible as a student (with a university issued ID card)? There is not much info on the website.

|||

reduced fare is for the under 8, handicapped and families with lots of kids, but not for students.

A few months ago I noticed that they are selling the Museum Pass at the Air France terminal in NYC%26#39;s JFK airport. They are also able to give you other information on Paris attractions and perhaps info on metro passes.

Phread,

How many kids do you need for the discount? I will be bringing my kids (17, 14 and 12) next month and have been trying to figure out whether carnet or Carte d%26#39;Orange is the way to go for the 3 1/2 days in Paris.

Thanks.
