Restuarants

Thanks for the Versaille/carte orange info guys...any tips for good restuarants that don%26#39;t require a dress suit and a hefty visa limit...only a student so going to paris on a budget that i intend to maintain!:)

Focus on ethnic restaurants. There are many North African, Asian, and Indian restaurants. Also, you can take advantage of France%26#39;s colonial past and look for restaurants that serve foods from Cameroon or other former colonies. You won%26#39;t find it elsewhere! (I only thought about that because a Parisian friend recently told me of a very good meal in a Cameroonaise restaurant.) If you want to go to a nice restaurant, you should consider going at lunch when the bill will be 50-75% of the average dinner price.

Look at cafes as you are walking around and decide which one you like. Memu is always posted on the outside and you can eat there for little money especially if you order one of their daily specials.

Be careful with price of drinks however, Some can add 4 Euros to a 10-12 Euros meal.

What would be your limit for evening meals? We can get a bit more specific if we have a rough idea.

hmmmm...well i suppose anywhere from €50 to a €100pp for an evening meal...which in ireland would be pretty respectable although ive heard in paris it%26#39;s to be scoffed at? was in rome last summer and made the big mistake of eating in the %26quot;tourist areas%26quot;...i dont want to make the same mistake twice! im staying by the lourve so im guessing the most convienent place to eat would be the latin quarter?

Oh, with that budget, you%26#39;ll have many choices for evening meals--especially if you go lite on the wine

If you want to have fun and eat cheap, go to Chartier. Here it is: http://www.restaurant-chartier.com/www/
