Chantilly or Fontainebleau for a day trip from Paris?

Have done Versailles so would like to try somewhere else on our next trip in the summer. Anyone think one is better than the other or easier to get to by public transport? Many thanks

I think Chantilly is great, it has a more %26#39;coutryside%26#39; feeling, with a great museum. In the summer at the back of the park you have a small restaurant where they serve tea and desserts (or at least they did, i hope they still do) and you can try the Crème Chantilly, whipped cream.

I love Fontainebleau but it is really in town, and the park is not as big. The chateau is more about the kings of France and Napoléon

That is a hard decision!

I think that Fountainebleau is easier to get to on the train, but that is just my opinion. The chateaux is very nice. The forest is almost exactly like of old. My cousin has been on the restoration committee for the past 25 years.

We took a row boat ride on the lake it was lovely.

You could go on that day and also visit Vaux-Le-Vicomte! It is lovely complete interior. You have to take a taxi to Vaux-Le-Vicomte and back but I think it is worth the trip.

Chantilly also has wonderful Grandes Ecuries (Great Stables). The chateaux is very nice too.

We got there by car and the view is spectacular! It looks like it is floating in the water! The forest is huge and the landscape Garden is nice.

Which ever you decide you will be rewarded with a great time!
