I am going to Paris and traveling south through Burgundy, the Rhone and ultimately ending up in Avignon. I work for a US winery and will be sightseeing and of course tasting the whole way. I%26#39;ll take any recommendations!
Most importantly-
I have to leave Avignon on a Friday to be back in the States Saturday monrning. What is my best option:
1. Take a train or car to Marseilles or Montpellier and catch a flight.
2. Take the TGV directly to Paris.
3. Can I fly from Avignon to Paris?
I%26#39;ll take any help I can get

Good question.
You CAN fly from Avignon Caumont Airport to Paris. There are nearly 10 flights per day. Only Air France uses this airport at the time.
You could also take the train. The fastest TGV between Avignon and Paris takes about 2 hours 36 minutes. There are many others that take a bit longer though, so choose carefully. I all really just depends on the departure time of your flight out of Paris.
Since you would be in Avignon, I would not drive to Montpellier or Marseille. You could if you find a better time frame or better price, but Marseille airport, from Avignon would take 1 hour and Montpellier, about the same. Since there are so many TGV trains and flights between Avignon and Paris, there is really no need to do that.
Not sure if that helps, but I do hope so.
By the way, I was raised in Charlotte, NC. Went to South Mecklenberg High School - now I live in the Southeast of France.
Have a great holiday.

Hi, I live 10 mins from Caumont Avignon airport and yes at the moment Air France are the only airline to fly from there. As from May 26th this year you will be able to fly from Avignon to England. Firstly to Southampton and then later in the year we have heard to Birmingham

By the time you figure getting to the Avignon airport at least an hour in advance, you could be halfway to Paris on the TGV. And you can take the train directly to the Charles de Gaulle airport, saving even more time.
What kind of recommendations would you like?

Defenetly take the TGV train, just above 21/2 hours direct froma Avignon TGV station to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
To get around Avignon, you shall need a car (available with your train ticket) especially if you want to go to wineries. What do you prefer ?
Chateauneuf du Pape (just north of Avignon), vallés de Baux wines, a small AOC or costières de Nîmes, 30%26#39; south east of Avignon and just next to Tarascon or Beaucaire ?
I shall be away all next week but as I am a wine professionnal (working as an independant consultant and also as an expert for french tribunals) I can give you my suggestions of some of the best Domains. Just post a notice here and I%26#39;ll answer it.

Wineries
there are hundreds of wineries around Avignon.
Some are magnificent and others aren%26#39;t worth a dime. The N° 1 and by far in the area is a simple %26quot;vin de pays%26quot;, rather pricy from the Vallée des Baux de Provence. It does not have the %26quot;appellation%26quot; and is called Domaine de Trévallon. Certainly one of the 2 or 3 best wines from southern France. It shall be included in the book %26quot;the 365 best wines of the world%26quot; by Bettane %26amp; Desseauve, the well known french wine gurus,to be released in october, simultanously in french ,english and german. Trévallon is an exceptionnal blend of Cabernet sauvignon and Syrah.
Another domain, in the unknown appellation of costières de Nîmes is Château Mourgues du Grès in Beaucaire; they are largely available on export markets.
Appointments can be made for visits by the owner/wine maker.
It%26#39;ll have to be all for now. Cheers !
