Please help with suggestions for shopping in Paris with 11...

I will be heading to Paris in April with my 11 year old daughter and we would like to do a bit of shopping. A special dress or outfit from Paris would be a real thrill for her. Can you please suggest where we should go that won%26#39;t break the bank. We will be staying in the 1st arrondisement. Thanks so much!

I did the same trip with my daughter. Good luck!!

The area around Rue d%26#39;Aboukir is where the dress shops are. They are sort of factory shops for the individual workshops, so the stuff there tends to be one-offs, and there is some good, if unlabelled, clothing there. My daughter bought herself a really short skirt for about 5Euros, which she loves (In the 70s I had a belt wider than that, I told her....... made no difference) and a sequinned top for 8Euros. My Wife bought a suit for 80Euros which sells in Macys for $300, so theres all sorts for all prices.

My daughter particularly like some of the really cheap shops on the lower end of St Denis (just around the corner) but she felt uncomfortable with the street prostitutes. I was hoping she was too young to notice them...........

You might enjoy walking along rue Etienne Marcel. This is where many of the younger designers have set up shop. Be warned, however, it%26#39;s still rather pricey. I was just there and thought I%26#39;d have a cow when a pair of jeans I liked in the window turned out to be $500! She might also enjoy the shear enormity of the selection at Galeries Lafayette or Printemps.

My teenaged daughters liked shopping at Promod on the Champs Elysees. It had really cute young styles and was very reasonable (spaghetti strap tops on sale $10 - flouncy skirts, reg. price - $25-45). Etam is also a good, reasonably priced shop they liked. Located all around the city. Check out Promod%26#39;s website - you can see a selection of their merchandise and the pricing.
