I read references to %26quot;self catering%26quot; and renting apartments (ie. Le Home %26amp; A Merula) by the week, in Calvi.
How do I find information on these?
We are planning to be there the first week in October

Le Home and A Merula are offered by several British holiday companies, i,e. Holiday Options, if you look on their website www.holidayoptions.co.uk you will get a feel for what the accommodation is like. Perhaps you could book online, I%26#39;m not sure. We have used the company to travel to Corsica, both flight only and with hotel accommodation, and they are well run. Which Magazine in Britain is a consumer organisation and I was looking at their Corsica Mini Guide online, that is quite helpful and you can download it if you want.
It recommends the A Merula apartments. It is easy for us Brits to get to Corsica but presumably a bit more difficult for those in the US - but then you have the Caribbean on your doorstep which is a big bonus !! (We love the Caribbean). Happy holidays.

Try looking at www.directcorsica.com

Thanks for the tip on this website www.directcorsica.com, aardvark, it is really good. Will be useful for looking for accommodation in the future. Have booked hoels in Calvi and Bonifacio for this October by faxing hotels direct but you do need to do this in French I think to be clear about what you require. I really enjoy the Corsica forum page, find am looking at it daily now when should be working !

White-family, you might also find
corsica.net/corsica/…lama02.htm
to be of interest. Spot the most amusing translation error under %26quot;Cultural Activities%26quot;!!

White-Family and Aardvarl0,
Thanks for your help. We just got back from skiing and it was great to have this information waiting for us. Love this website.
It%26#39;s like having new friends!

PS
Just as I was investigating rental apartments in Calvi, we received an email from our fellow Norwegian travellers regarding a suitable apartment in Bastia.
Considering that our trip will be in early October do you have any comments on Calvi versus Bastia?
|||
Sorry I thought Ventura was in California but you are from Norway ?? Anyway, can%26#39;t advise on Bastia as have not visited but Calvi is lovely, good atmosphere, pretty marina, good beach etc etc. I am probably biased as have been there quite a few times and keep going back. We are going again in October and hope the weather is going to be OK but another tripadvisor forum message said there could be storms. (Family wedding meant that we could not go in September as planned).

You were correct, White-Family.
We are in California, our friends are from Norway. We are meeting in Provence and taking a two weeks vacation together.
I do hope to hear from someone who is familiar with Bastia.
There are so many postings on this site, (Calvi) but oddly, only two on the Bastia site..

There are very few postings on Bastia because few holidaymakers choose to stay there. Calvi and Bastia are like chalk and cheese. Bastia is not a resort, more an industrial and commercial centre for the north of the Ireland. Having said that, it%26#39;s a pleasant enough town and worth a few hours exploration. It%26#39;s also a useful base for the much recommended circular tour of Cap Corse, including Centuri Port, just of the %26quot;main%26quot; road. It has no beaches worthy off mention but fairly reasonable but characterless beaches start south of the town along the strip of land bordering the Etang (lake) de Biguglia.

Thank you Aardvark for your input on Bastia. It sounds quite discouraging.
I have been trying to contact the UK travel companies, (in search of self-catering 2BR places to stay in Calvi or nearby) with little success.. They don%26#39;t answer my emails, and because we live in California (9 hours time difference) I have difficulty reaching them by phone.
I found No US travel agencies that deal with Corsica. I guess, US residents better look elsewhere for vacations :-)
I won%26#39;t give up.. I%26#39;ll try to wake up in the middle of the night one day next week to reach a UK travel company during office hours.
