Nail Salons and Acrylic Nails in Paris

I am heading to Paris in a few weeks. I just had my acrylic nails removed and I am going through withdrawals with thin, short damaged nails I now have. BUT, when I was in Paris last October I broke a nail and never could find a nail salon!! I found out quickly nail salons are hard to find. Also, I did not see a single Parisian with acrylic nails. So, I thought maybe it looked a bit sleezy?? I just figured now was a good time to have them removed to avoid any more inconveniences on my next trip.

Just a couple questions: Am I right that very few Parisian ladies have acrylic nails? Now that my nails are short, I was thinking a nude/beige neutral color would be nice. Any comments??

waytogogirl,

Acrylics are not as popular in France, but gels are. There is a fantastic gel product used in France called Biosculpture. It is a gel that cures without primer and therefore does not damage the nail bed. It is also very thin and flexible and can be soaked off with little damage to the natural nail. I got hooked on the product when I was there but very few places in the USA use it yet. The product is a bit more expensive so you can%26#39;t set it up like a chop shop/cash cow in the USA.

Nonetheless, Galleries Lafayette has a very good nail salon, I%26#39;ve been there before, and I believe they do acrylics and straight manicures.

Your nails will be much better off without the acrylics in the long run anyway!!

Waytogogirl...I%26#39;m glad you brought this up and am looking forward to any replies. I don%26#39;t wear acrylic nails, but a week in Paris will be the last leg of our trip after a week in Ireland and a week in London, and I am just a little enamored of the idea of treating myself to a manicure %26amp; pedicure in Paris--no acrylic nails, but I figured by my third week of travel, my poor feet and hands could use the pick-me-up. Of course, once in the beautiful city of Paris, we may be so busy with everything else that a mani/pedi will be the last thing on my mind.

So, inquiring minds want to know--are there nail salons in Paris? If so, what is the usual cost for a manicure, pedicure, and/or both? Is an appointment necessary? And BTW, while I don%26#39;t know where you%26#39;ll be, waytogogirl, we%26#39;ll be in the 5th, if that makes any difference.

Merci!

Mascara...apparently we were posting at the same time! You seem knowledgeable on the subject...could you possibly answer my additional questions, please, and also, where is the place you mentioned?

Merci!

misstriptx,

Galeries Lafayette is probably the most famous department store in Paris. They have a nail salon there and a hair salon. They are on Bvd Haussmann and probably the most central Metro station to that location is ST LAZARE for getting there. You come out of the station and walk up the street (away from the front of the station) and you will come to Bvd. Haussmann.

You will need an appointment so what I%26#39;d suggest you do is do some shopping in that area early in your trip (which you would want to do anyway) and then visit the nail salon while you are there. Make an appointment and then come back. I went shopping on my second day there last time and made the appointment for two days later. Forgive me but I cannot remember how much it cost!?? I do know that you need to specify you want nail polish (vernis à ongles) because often mani/pedis don%26#39;t include that in France unless you specify.

I hope that helps?

Here%26#39;s a link showing the nail salon on their website:

Mascara...bless you! Thank you so very much! I will copy out the info for our trip. And thank you, also, for the term for getting polish--depending upon time and feeling, I may or may not want to allot the extra time for allowing polish to dry. :-) My current plan is to treat myself to a %26quot;spa%26quot; mani/pedi (no polish) before our trip (our week in Paris will be preceded by a week in Ireland and a week in London), but given time, etc., it might be nice to end the trip with polish.

Thanks again, and a warm hug your way!

Misstriptx, I am staying in the 5th also! That is where I was in October and could not find a nail salon close. Someone in a hair salon directed me to one but it was not that close and so I just decided to go around with one broken nail for the rest of my time in Paris. So, Galleries Lafayette is a good suggestion for a salon- and there isn%26#39;t a better dept. store in my opinion!

Mascara, You are right. My nails will thank me once they become healthy again. By the way, aren%26#39;t you going to be in Paris at the same time as I am March 22-29??

I will be getting my nails done before I leave for my trip. I usually like to wear color should I get a more neutral color for Paris?

|||

hi waytogogirl,

I will be there from the 23-30, yes.

I am quite sure any beauty salon will also do manicures. But the long long acrylic nails are not in here, i can tell a lady is american by just looking at her nails. But more and more young girls (mostly blond it seems, i don%26#39;t know why) have a %26quot;french manucure%26quot; which i think is american anyway : pink or beige plus the edge of the nails white.
