One Frustrated Soul - Paris to Venice

I will be staying in Paris from May 21st to 27th. Planning to travel from Paris to Venice on May 27th or 28th. I can book budget air tickets with Myair for about 120 Euro for two people. Not too sure about travelling on the train due to the cost and the time of travel - I prefer the train travel during the day to night time. But I was not able to find a day train from Paris to Venice.

Just wondering if there is any comfortable bus (coach) going on this route during the day, the cost and what it%26#39;s like? Would I need to book ahead or I would be alright to get a ticket once I am in Paris. The reason I want to travel by bus is to see the country side or some towns on the way. Thanks in advance.

There%26#39;s a TGV train service which departs PARIS-Gare de Lyon daily at 08:04 AM, which goes to MILAN-Central, then a quick train change at Milan for train from MILAN-Central to both VENICE-Mestre and Saint Lucia stations...arriving in Venice at approx 18:00 (6:00 PM).

This inter-European coach company offers service from Paris to Venice...Mon, Wed, Fri %26amp; Sat--- departing Paris at 17:30 (05:50 PM) and arriving Venice at 11:15 AM the following morning--

If you can fly, go for it. Venice is a short flight from Paris. It will save you a lot of sightseeing time.

it doesn%26#39;t sound like it is an option for this particular trip, but someday try to book the Venice Simplon Orient Express for this route....it is a wonderful and memorable experience!

Thanks for your advice. I did check the Euroline bus website and as soon as I selected departing from France, the site change to French with no English option. And the Google search did not bring me any other useful pages in English. That%26#39;s why I was getting a bit frustrated... (also when I tried to book train tickets online, I got asked where I wanted the tickets to be delivered to, but there was no option of delivering to Australia... maybe too far away from Europe!)

The day train option sounds good. It leaves from Paris Gare Lyon and I%26#39;ve noticed all the night trains leave from Paris Berch. Is Paris Gare Lyon easy to reach if I stay in the city area?

Elliemae - don%26#39;t tempt the pour soul. Most of us can%26#39;t afford that wonderful Orient Express luxury! Alas...if only...but us poor starving artists are doing well if we can just get there!

Qipao, if you book by midnight, Thursday, March 2nd, Ryanair has a 75% off special. There%26#39;s a 6:45 flight leaving from Paris to Venice for 19.99 Euro per person. Here%26#39;s the catch: you have to get to Port Maillot in Paris by 3:30 on Saturday. Port Maillot is accessible by Taxi or Metro. At Port Maillot you will take a shuttle bus to Paris Beauvais airport (about an hour). The flight lands at Treviso airport at 8:15. There is a shuttle bus that will meet you at the airport and take you to the main station in Venice where you will catch a vaporetto (water bus) to the stop closest to your hotel. So the downside is that you will be traveling from about 3pm on Saturday until approximately 10pm. The planes are nice, new 727%26#39;s and there are no seat assignments. We prefer exit row and had no problem getting four exit row seats for the extra leg room. No food or drinks are served on the aircraft, but as you can see, it%26#39;s only a 90 minute flight, so you can get a snack before you leave or pack something in your bag, and then plan on a late dinner in Venice. Some restaurants do close early, but you%26#39;ll always be able to find something before 11pm. You have to be careful about not going over your luggage allowance or they will charge you a large amount for excess baggage. We had no problem with this even though we had already been in Europe for over a week when we took the flight. The baggage restrictions are 10kgs carry-on and 20kgs checked-in luggage.

There are a lot of people who prefer not to travel the really inexpensive airlines since they tend to use airports that are on the outskirts of town, adding to your travel time. We personally don%26#39;t have a problem with this because we would rather spend our Euros on great stuff while we%26#39;re there, even if we have to give up a little time to do it.

We (four of us) will be in Paris the exact same time that you are. If you%26#39;re interested in meeting for dinner or drinks, we have Monday night the 22nd and Wednesday night, the 24th free. We%26#39;ve been to Paris several times and we might be able to give you some good tips! Feel free to email me at vickisfloyd@hotmail.com. Last year in Paris we met up with five other couples from the Tripadvisor forum and had a great five-hour dinner because the conversation was so wonderful! I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ve probably already been on the Venice forum, but the Secret Itineraries tour at the Doge%26#39;s Palace was really great. If you have any Venice questions, post them to Robert-J. He is THE Venice authority. If we do meet up, we can give you some good info on Venice as well.

I%26#39;m sorry - one more thing; the flight from Paris to Venice is 6:45pm. Didn%26#39;t want you to think you%26#39;d have to be at Porte Maillot at 3:30 in the morning!

Can everyone tell I%26#39;m wide awake and bored here in Jacksonville at 2:15am? Or is it that I%26#39;m just addicted to the forum? Hmmmmm....

Both PARIS-Gare de Lyon and PARIS-Gare de Bercy are located on the right Bank, in the eastern portion of the city (12eme arrondissement--perhaps 2-3 km from Notre Dame) and both are easily access by public transportation or taxi from anywhere in Paris.

I went on to the Raileurope website trying to book the day train. When I put in the date May 27th or 28th, all trains listed are night ones. Tried other dates in May, no day train comes up. But when I put March and April, that day train is listed. I wondered if the day train was sold out for May, so I emailed Raileurope. They sent me a confirmation but haven%26#39;t sent me a reply to my answer. I am just waiting now. Maybe I am missing the cheap airfare while I am waiting!

Is there some particular reason why you want to pay RailEurope extra for your train tickets?? Why not simply go directly to the source and order your tickets through SNCF??...which does know whic trains run whare...and when those trains run.

Did check SNCF website too. For May 27th and 28th, it says %26quot;Peak period, tickets not sold on the Internet%26quot;. No cost listed either. Meanwhile, Raileurope has not replied to me yet, so still frustrated. Is May 27th and 28th long weekend in France? Would it be safe if I wait till I get to Paris to buy a day train ticket to Venice? (My time is not that flexible, either May 27th or May 28th. )
